About

Hi there,
I’ve spent the last two decades at the intersection of technology and leadership, helping build and scale engineering teams across companies like ThoughtWorks, Atlassian, Zip Co, and Canva.
Currently, I lead AI Engineering at Optus, where I focus on turning cutting-edge technology into practical business solutions.
My Journey
My path in technology started with a deep love for functional programming and distributed systems. I even wrote a book about Clojure along the way. But what truly captivated me was understanding how great teams operate — how they innovate, scale, and maintain their cultural DNA through periods of intense growth.
This led me through various engineering leadership roles, each teaching valuable lessons about the craft of technical leadership. From building real-time collaboration systems at Atlassian to scaling engineering teams at Canva, I’ve learned that great technical leadership is more art than science.
Why I Write
Through The LeadTech Diet newsletter, I share insights from my journey and practical frameworks for engineering leaders. Writing helps me refine my thoughts on leadership, technology, and building software at scale.
My articles focus on the intersection of technical excellence and people leadership, including topics like:
- Building high-performing engineering teams
- Navigating the transition from engineer to leader
- Scaling technical organizations
- Developing sustainable engineering cultures
Beyond Tech
When I’m not thinking about technology and leadership, you’ll find me playing guitar, riding motorcycles, or exploring new coffee spots around Sydney.
Let’s Connect
I’m always excited to connect with fellow technology leaders and share experiences. You can find me on LinkedIn, or subscribe to my newsletter below for regular insights on engineering leadership.
